The University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) was established in October, 1987 by the University Council of Jamaica Act, 1987. It is a statutory body currently under the porfolio of the Minister of Education. The UCJ is the national Quality Assurance Agency for the tertiary education in Jamaica.

Vision Statement
The UCJ aims to be a Centre of Excellence enabling national, regional and international development through quality assurance in higher education.
Mission Statement
The mission of the University Council of Jamaica is to facilitate and oversee the development and maintenance of a robust higher education quality assurance system.
